PVC colour-change wrap is a calendered vinyl film around 3–4 mil (0.08–0.10 mm) thick that gives a full colour change at a lower cost than TPU. It suits flat and gently curved panels, lasts 3–5 years outdoors, and Shimao supplies gloss, matte and satin rolls in 1.52 m width with a one-roll minimum.

How long does PVC wrap last?

Expect 3–5 years on vertical panels and 2–3 years on a sun-facing bonnet or roof. PVC is a plasticised film, so heat cycles slowly draw out plasticiser and the surface turns matte before it fails. Washing with pH-neutral shampoo and parking in shade adds roughly a year to that window.

PVC or TPU: which should you buy?

PVC costs less per roll and covers flat panels quickly, which suits fleet branding, trade-ins and short-lease cars. TPU costs more but self-heals, stretches further into recesses and holds gloss for 5–7 years. Distributors usually carry PVC for volume colour changes and TPU for premium retail jobs.

Can PVC wrap be removed without damaging paint?

On sound factory paint, yes: warm the film to 40–50 °C, peel at a low angle and remove adhesive residue with a solvent-free cleaner. Risk rises on repainted panels, rust spots and old clear coat, where the film can lift what is already loose. Always test a 10 cm corner first.
